Our story began in the early 1990s

Thanks to the initiative of our founder, Vicente Navarrete Marinot. To add value to seaweed, he chose to work with local fishing communities in the southern part of Chile. Below is a summary of our history over the years:

First alginate production plant in Chile

1993

Gelymar begins its production activities.

1997

Opening of heterogeneous processing plant.

1999

Opening of alcohol refining plant. Global commercial expansion.

2000

Recognized as the best Chilean industrial exporter by SOFOFA.

2004

Commercial offices and logistics centers opened in France, Mexico, China, and Brazil.

2005

Inauguration of pilot plant and innovation center.

2007

Launch of Gely Gum product line and systems.

2010

Opening of a new semi-refined carrageenan plant in Tierra del Fuego.

2015

Opening of pharmaceutical-grade alginate pilot plant.

2017

Commercial production of Gely Fiber.

2019

New 10-ton refined production plant.

2021

Opening of EMEA office in Barcelona, Spain.

2023

New office and laboratory in Mexico.
